SUZUKI ADVANCED COOLING SYSTEM
Suzuki pioneered the use of this unique cooling system in the original GSX-R750
and has used it successfully in several models. The SACS cooling system uses air
and recirculating oil to maintain engine operating temperature. The heart of the
system is a 2-sided oil pump that is fed from a common oil supply. One side of
the pump supplies the lubrication system with oil while the other side
recirculates a large volume of oil through the cylinder head. Oil in the
cylinder head passes over the top of the combustion chambers, (the hottest part
of the engine), and draws away heat before returning to the sump at the bottom
of the engine. Oil in the sump is simultaneously pumped through a large volume
oil cooler to help maintain optimum oil temperature. Another feature of the
system is oil jet piston cooling which sprays a continuous stream of oil under
the crown of each piston to reduce engine heat. Overall the Suzuki SACS system
is simple and effective. It requires no special servicing and allows engine
designers to use lightweight engine components while maintaining high
durability.
